Space/Science » in reply to Darwinism Must Die So That Evolution May Live

Why did you feel the need to make that statement?

That you neither "condone nor condemn this essay"? If you are
worried about what creationists might say or do, keep in mind their
viewpoint is not scientific, whatever else it might be. Saying that life
is too complex to have formed by chance is an opinion, not a fact -
and some of them even admit they have no real evidence. It is just
an offshoot of their religion and culture, anyway.

It is an excellent article that makes a very good point about how Darwin
has not only been deified (either as good or evil, depending on how
much science education and religious indoctrination one received as a
child, or lack thereof) but that the utterly annoying view that one must
"believe" in evolution is the totally wrong way to approach evolution
if you want to be scientific at all about it. Same way I cannot stand
hearing people say they "believe" or don't believe that aliens exist.
Unless you worship aliens, they aren't a belief system. Either they do
or don't exist, but it isn't because a bunch of humans have some kind
of ambiguous feelings about them.

All that being said, poor Darwin has been misunderstood and his words
manipulated to be used for purposes they were not intended since his
ideas came to wide public light in 1859.

Even Darwin's "bulldog", Thomas Huxley, did not get everything he was
trying to say in part because of his cultural/religious upbringing.

Of course the biggest error of all about Darwin by public opinion is that
he tried to undermine the existence of God or any other creator type
deity with "his" evolution idea. People are just afraid that their lives
have no purpose and/or that some kind of supernatural parent type
figure isn't watching over them on a daily basis. And nobody wants to
admit or realize that the religion they have been a part of all their lives
might be based on a sham perpetuated by primitive and superstitious
folks thousands of years ago.

Some day we will grow up (or we won't grow up at all) and this whole
argument of evolution will seem as quaint as when our ancestors
seriously debated whether Earth went 'round the Sun or the other way
around.
