Human evolution kicks into high gear
It appears our evolution is actually accelerating rather than being stagnant or merely collecting more faulty genes. I had believed as had many anthropologists that we were now evolving through culture rather than genes and that the only evolution going on was an increase in bad traits that were no longer a disadvantage due to modern technology. It appears that a huge increase in population has provided a much higher rate of positive mutations (in terms of inhancing reproductive success) and that genetic answers are still better than technological ones in many places on Earth.
I celebrated Darwin's 200th by buying:
ON THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES (illustrated and annotated)
THE 10,000 YEAR EXPLOSION (by researcher in article above)
WHY EVOLUTION IS TRUE
ONLY A THEORY
RELICS OF EDEN
YOUR INNER FISH
THE LAST HUMAN
THE LIVING COSMOS
FROM LUCY TO LANGUAGE (new addition with Hobbit in it)
THE THIRD DOMAIN
STRICKBERGER'S EVOLUTION, FOURTH EDITION
It was a great book sale at the scientific American Book Club! Got a book on Titan and several on Mars as well. It will probably be all year before I work my way through all these, but the skimming was fun.
