The "good war"
was never a war Tom not in the classical sense. It was a police action, a clearing of a criminal element, something we could have done quickly and efficiently and gotten out while retaining the good will of the people of Afghanistan and the rest of the world.
Once that mission was blown and the bad guys escaped up into the hills it was destined to go where it did. There were probably opportunities to right things along the way but the outlook was always bleak once Bin Laden and his bunch found haven in Pakistan.
