If you are a solar system where the giant planets have migrated
towards the main star and end up in an orbit just days long, having
knocked apart any terrestrial types worlds in the process, that the
chances for life on Earthlike worlds - if they even exist after all that -
are slim to none.
On the other hand, if your Jupiters have moved out into decades long
solar orbits, then the chances for Earth-type worlds and life are much
improved, we being at least one example.
Of course there might still be life on the moons of Jovian planets or
even in the atmosphere of the gas giants themselves, but whether it
is intelligent and technological is another story.
I hope we start finding more analogs to our Sol system, if not Earth
type planets at least.
