Legalize everything then and be done with the hypocrisy.
(Now we know that certain groups will never, ever legalize crimes against property but will have fewer compunctions about crimes against people.)
No prescriptions, no age limits on alcohol, no restrictions. Marijuana in the schools should be as legal as alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin. After all, we're all adults here, aren't we? And we're looking at the same end result even if those drugs act different from each other.
The reality is that any brain which needs those substances to alter it's reality might want to look at itself a bit. Or might not.
And I don't know squat about economics except that neither unrestrained, unregulated capitalism nor socialism will work. I know nothing about national defense except that 99% of what is done in it's name is not national defense.
I do know what I'm talking about in re marijuana. And if a role of a government is to protect it's citizens, the US would do well to get rid of it's aircraft carriers and spend the money on drug interdiction and prosecuting the root of the problem, the buyers.
I think we're all going to have to agree to disagree on this one, with one side retreating into the smugness of knowing it's reasoning is based upon fact, the other being based upon limited knowledge and wishful thinking.
I'm done with it.
