founding fathers fought frequently
No violence implied, not even metaphorically. My point was that the founders did not show up with shared vision for the new country, they were split by divisions and factions, and comprised many different interests and power centers, not to mention philosophies. Both the Declaration and the Constitution were masterpieces of compromise and negotiation and ambiguity. Many important national issues were left for the future to sort out.
My point was that an ideological and dogmatic political approach, if insisted upon back then, would have resulted in our friend TB being called out. We don't fight duels in civilized society any more. We just roll our eyes in slack-jawed wonder.
