It is STILL excessively expensive, and will remain so. The cost problem is inherent in nuclear power.
We need to give it up and proceed with something that is affordable on a large scale.
There are exactly FOUR practical, large scale long-term, renewable energy technology:
Ocean thermal gradient-obviously the cheapest way to make electricity;
Biomass, in dozens of combinations of sources and processes;
Photovoltaic;
Wind.
Only the last of these, wind, is currently being exploited on at least a medium scale. The rest are being ignored, especially the first.
Talk about cheap nuclear power has been going on for half a century, and we are farther away from it than ever. Nuclear plants are ALWAYS built with governmental subsidies. One major factor behind France's current economic problems is the huge subsidy being paid for its nuclear power industry.

Cheap Nuclear Power! I have been hearing about new ideas for 40 years.

- I realize it's a mature technology, but what's frightening is "liquid sodium".
