Al-Qaeda and al-Sadr are often Iraqi, are Muslim and are Middle Eastern.

Who is fighting?

The US, a North American, mostly Christian, mainly Caucasian country. A country which illegally invaded Iraq. Preemptively invaded, without justification.

So, we have Iraqis, Muslims and Middle Easterners fighting to throw out a North American, primarily Christian, illegal foreign invader. Trying to throw the invaders out of Iraq.

Define "freedom fighter".
