I have been anticipating it for months. It has a great cast with Ian McShane as King Silas
Overall I was a bit disappointed. It is better than average TV but it could have been far better.
The Kingdom of Gilboa was poorly set up. Even as an alternate reality it does not hold water. A 5 minute introduction could have cured this. King Silas is portrayed as a beloved King but it seems he only seized the throne maybe a couple of decades ago, rising from military obscurity to a totalitarian Monarch. In this or any reality it would have to be a post apocalyptic nation
I realize that it is a classic play on good and evil but can't we still have the shades of gray that exist in the real world. Instead of a "let them eat cake" atitude show us the difficult choices between guns and butter in war time. King Silas is a rather weak prick from the get go and David is angelic. Hardly like the warlord that the real David became. Maybe that will develop as the episodes fly by but it is already too late to afford any redeeming qualities to Silas.
Goliath is a Tank, not a particularly special Tank, just one of many Tanks that the enemy has while Gilboa has none. It stretches the power to suspend disbelief that between 2 realtively equal modern nations, one side would have Tanks aplenty and the other side apparently has none. They have helicopters and jet fighters but no Tanks.
Still, for the cast and the classic story, it is worth watching.
