The current government has established that they have the power to loot us at their will, far beyond the normal bounds of taxation. That they have the power to decide when someone has earned "too much," and arbitrarily take it away from them. Politicians have already talked about extending this beyond businesses that have taken bailout money, so that's not the root issue.

This principle is acceptable to many people because they feel they are safely below the looting target zone, or worse, stand to get a piece of the action.

The target zone has dropped considerably since last summer. I hope people are noticing.
