Why do you think we have three branches of government in the first place?
As a check to unbridled power.
"If members of Congress had been anticipated to be perfect paragons, the Founders would not have found the division of power to be necessary."
The Congress approval rating has been in the dumpster- and for good reasons.
Perfect paragons is not anywhere near the ballpark.
Three cheers for the foresight of the founders, though it doesn't mean that congress *should* depend upon the supreme court in order to fashion the law.
Generally speaking, congress should know the constitution and obey it.
It would also be nice if they give some appearance they aren't all power crazed.
And perhaps, a bit less worship of banana republics could possibly lead to less attempts at mimicking them.
"I really don't know why you expect that Congress would not react to the angry howls of the people who elected it. Its function is to express the will of the people."
I don't expect they will listen, they have not shown any indication of doing so, but btw, congress should not run by "angry howls of the people".
All angry howls could possibly indicate of any value, is there *could be* BIG screw ups- or the mob has been misinformed. Running a govt until people give angry howls is like passing laws which require them to be nullified by the supreme court.
It simply is not governing.
And if they aren't our representatives, instead one could imagine that they have apparently been voted in to be at picnic.
