And I kept wondering right from the start why the Cylons didn't just
move in and wipe out humanity.

About as realistic as the Borg being unable to defeat the Federation,
especially Earth. They didn't seem to have any trouble with most of
the other civilizations they encountered, even more advanced ones.

But darn those plucky, unique humans (even though it was established
that so many humanoid species in the galaxy came from one very
ancient species, so most ST aliens are actually related and should also
be plucky and lucky), they can defeat and win over just about anybody!
