In fact, I find it offensive to people who patronize minorities to make themselves feel better because of some internalized phony self-hating guilt trip. And those people deserve to be offended. Nothing is more subtly racist than patronization, and even if it is "well-meaning", it is still insulting and humiliating. You've probably guessed by now I've been on the receiving end of some of it myself.
When I first saw this, before I learned about the film-maker, I thought it was produced by a black director. Now I don't know any of the history or subtext about this piece and the people who made it so I can't pretend to deconstruct it. But knowing how I react to material similar to that being satirized here, it's exactly the kind of humor I would expect from a black satirist.
