It is FICTION, after all

Fiction relies on suspension of reality. In fact, it is suspension of reality, where the author, screenwriter, poet, artist makes things up, and the viewer, in turn as part of the bargain, suspends incredulity.p>

SciFi is an alternate reality minted in Hollywood. Anything goes.

You know, you can't even see spaceships in space. If you could see them, you certainly wouldn't see them making U-turns or swooping around aerodynamically, but without such artistic license, Hollywood is lost.

Good SciFi is always at least a little bit cheesy - that's part of the fun.

No, what bothers me is the increasing tendency to suspend incredulity for reality. That's where that unwillingness to notice and discuss the Elephant in the Room comes in, to bridge two threads.

Perhaps Fiction conditions people to accept Living room Elephants and Naked Emperors, but then, none dare call it denial.
