Where did it get the mass?

I liked the first and second movies. The one thing that bugged me, thou- where did the baby alien get the mass to grow into the big alien (in the first movie)?

Mass coming from nowhere also bugs me with the Hulk. Where does Banner get that extra mass to grow into the Hulk?

I have seen the â€œMass from nowhereâ€ situation in other movies/shows as well.
