Natural Variability

Bowser, old boy, I think you're beginning to see the light.

Here's some background info on droughts from California's Department of Water Resources.

Note that historic droughts are determined, at least in part, by tree ring proxies (dendrochronology), as the article notes.

Information on the thickness of annual growth rings can be used to infer the wetness of the season.

Recall that tree ring data is one of the proxies used by climate alarmists to support their claims of anthropogenic global warming. Even Wikipedia allows that:

...problems exist in connecting the proxies (e.g. tree ring width) to the variable of interest (e.g. temperature).

Wiki - Temperature record

Droughts are simply part of natural variability in weather and climate. Natural variability has not been falsified. Climate change is simply part of our planet's natural cycles and rhythms. Neither do we fully understand these cycles, nor do we understand the interplay between them, which is synergistic.

The whole (our climate) is greater than the sum of its parts.

Basing policy on a flawed modeling of an imperfectly understood system is a Fool's Errand of the Highest Order.

But make no mistake, there are plenty of fools. Consider the recent statement by the esteemed congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA):

We're seeing the reality of a lot of the North Pole starting to evaporate, and we could get to a tipping point. Because if it evaporates to a certain point - they have lanes now where ships can go that couldn't ever sail through before. And if it gets to a point where it evaporates too much, there's a lot of tundra that's being held down by that ice cap.

Stunningly stupid comments from a politician in a position of power.

God save us all!
