"It would be interesting to see how often companies that do have large-scale solar installations clean them."
One should keep in mind that the same economics of requiring solar panels to be cleaned applies to individual home owners with their solar panels and these home owner are probably going to have a much higher cost of cleaning them- whether they do themselves or they hire professionals.
I would expect that companies with large-scale installations if managed reasonably, would clean their solar panels more often than home owners. And because of the high cost for home owners to clean them, it would make economic sense to clean them less often.
And if one is going to use automation- perhaps something akin to a dishwasher- the cost of automation should much less per unit as compared to homeowners.
And of course with any automation one will need a certain level of maintenance. And a higher level of diligence with maintenance would also be a higher cost per unit with home owners.
