I don't think dreams have any meaning whatsoever. They are just random memories and chaotic daydreams all strung together in a maeaningless jumble; sound and fury, signifying nothing.
I do believe that dreaming performs a useful physiological function. Psychologists have shown that when people are repeatedly woken up as they go into dream sleep and prevented from dreaming, they eventually develop psychological problems which immediately susbside when they are allowed to dream normally again. No doubt, dreaming is some sort of maintenance routine the brain frequently must perform on itself, like a file compress or a defrag.
However, the subjective component of dreaming, the little movie that runs in your head that you sometimes remember the next morning, doesn't mean anything, and trying to make sense of it is a waste of time.
Any comments, ladies?
