Always looking for versions of us, when in reality evolution has probably
made some very different looking and thinking creatures, probably the
key point of the Fermi Paradox - they aren't looking for things like us or
trying to contact us because we don't resemble their idea of intelligent
life forms.
As has been said before, we should be looking for objects in the cold,
outer regions of the galaxy that emit primarily in the infrared. They may
not want to talk to us, but at least we will finally have the evidence we
have long been looking for.
The supernova idea is also a good one I have been advocating since I
first learned about it. I have tried to get various groups who monitor
for supernovae to look for artificial signals as well, but it seems that
some people who are otherwise into astronomy have rather limited goals
and imaginations.
