As alluded to by Socrates, it has been proposed that alien civilizations may have constructed vast Dyson-Sphere like structures that could be detected over galactic distances by the enormous amount of waste heat they generate. The IRAS data would show these objects if they exist, and I believe a formal effort to examine this huge dataset for this evidence has been undertaken. I was curious if anyone here was aware of this effort and if any results were published.
