How about counseling, community service and probation?

I wouldn't even begin to know where to dig up the statistics on this, but it appears to me that I've never heard of a 150 year sentence for a corporate or white-collar crime. Of course,

"Thus far, federal investigators have identified 1,341 investors in Madoff's firm, with losses exceeding $13 billion, and they're not done tallying up the damage."

So far, that averages to about a megabuck per victim, so we're not talking plain old low-life, run-of-the-mill consumers here, these are QUALITY victims. I guess Bernie will get the book thrown at him.

"[The Ponzi scheme's] effect on society was widespread, its effect on individual victims was economically and psychologically catastrophic. I can't see how any judge would sentence him for any period that would be less than his remaining lifespan."

I guess "Society" should have been capitalized.
