There were many furiously outraged people here at the use of that term by Republicans back in the day. The idea that one party should have the ambition of staying in power for many years was considered an abomination to the American political ideal.
Of course, now that the "right" party controls everything, nobody has a problem with that being the status quo, any more than they had a problem with four decades of Democrats ruling Congress.
