isti mirant stella

"The men behold the star".

Failure to report the 1054 nova simply because it contradicts Aristotle may not hold up, after all, the appearance of the decidedly non-Aristotelian Halley's Comet in 1066 was recorded in the Bayeux Tapestry, and was widely believed to be a bad omen for Harald and the Saxons at Hastings that year.

It's possible, knowing European weather, the poor astronomical knowledge of the time, and the lack of proper record keeping by the chroniclers, that they simply missed it, or that records did not survive.
