The Gates thread on CE illustrates a general distrust of cops (to put it mildly). And it's mostly liberal posters that have this view. But even Bowser knows the importance of the Rule of Law. It's what separates third world countries from developed nations. But how can one recognize the importance of the Rule of Law and espouse a blanket condemnation for those who enforce it?
The term "Pig" use to describe cops was used in the late 60's and early 70's mostly buy younger leftward leaning 'individuals'. The popular culture engaged in a widespread rebellion against authority while conservatives hung on to the status quo. I can hear it now, "Respect for authority is what allowed the Nazi party to rise to power." Maybe so, but despite it's evil nature, and driven by a megalomaniacal thirst for world domination, Germany's industrial and scientific accomplishments can't be denied. (treading on thin ice )
So who's right here? The left, with an actual prejudice against law enforcement, or the right who see a need for it, inclusive of it's current flaws.
I do sincerely hope the Gates matter will go to trial and I'm not attached to the verdict- either way.
Is respect for the law only a conservative value?

- No. Law is a system, though, and not embodied in the persons of those we hire to enforce it.
