You can blame Star Wars on that, not your parenting

As much as Star Wars probably did a lot to spur at least basic interest
in astronomy and space exploration, thirty-plus years later we have been
so saturated with mostly fantasy versions of travelling among the stars
(hyperspace makes things look too easy and mundane) that real space
travel probably won't grab him the way it did us.

I grew up in the age of Gemini and Apollo and between that and all the
wild SF programs on television and in the theaters I could not help but
be totally fascinated by it all. This is a different world now where a lot
of stuff we considered to be science fiction are commonplace tools for
this generation.

Of course, who knows, as your son gets older he might appreciate it
more. Just don't push it but continue your interest and he may come
around. Of course there is nothing wrong with being a biologist, either.
Maybe he'll get to study the first aliens we find!
