Reminder: Kepler "early science" briefing today at 2pm EDT
briefing announcement
Since Kepler has had a couple of safeing events, science data was last downloaded June 15 (and is next scheduled for Aug 20). I was thinking they might wait until after the next significant download and processing that data before their first release, but happily they are going to show some early results. I heard a rumor that their would be very little new coming from this first briefing, except to confirm that Kepler was working well and had confirmed a previous extrasolar planet discovery. Theoretically, they could have already have 25-100 new extra solar planet (hot jupiters) in even the limited data they have downloaded to date. So, I'm hoping we get a surprise with a raft of new ones.
