Without arguing the point of how planets are classified
my 5th grade grandson is being taught about the dwarf planets and was able to name Pluto, Ceres and Eris. He was also aware of Sedna which has not been classified as yet. He was not aware of Makemake or Haumea which were recently added I believe.
It seems to me that the addition of the dwarf classification has added to the liklihood that this will be taught vs adding them as additional planets.
In any case the main thing is that however they are classified they are part of the curriculum
