I stumbled on rss a decade ago. Before that I had a tab list in mozilla I launched automatically every day and checked and closed methodically to see if there were any updates to my favorite 50 blogs and websites. My first rss solution was an open source called citrone or something like that. It had a lemon for an icon which was a bad omen. Later i ported to Google Reader, because it was device agnostic and I could always tell when I had read something. It basically became my backup memory. Being able to search across my feeds was pretty awesome too when i wanted to gind something I read, but couldn't remember where. Ar one point I had even had HZ boards feed into reader, so I could see the topics at a glance without having to check in. I now wonder if the demise of google reader coincided with my first extended absence from the zone.
