These are assassin's tools, not defensive weapons. How are these items supposed to protect us from criminals or "government tyranny"? They are tools designed for those who fantasize going on the offensive.
When I was a kid, handguns were illegal outside your home, because they were concealable and could be used by criminals in burglaries and theft. Sawed-off shotguns and rifles under a certain length were also illegal, for the same reason. They could be hidden under a coat or jacket.
Long guns, in general, were not restricted by law, you were even allowed to carry them openly in public. Remember pickup truck rifle racks?
How times have changed. Now, hidden handguns can be taken into public places by those who can afford a concealed carry permit. You have to purchase the permit, undergo a strict background check, get fingerprinted, and take an expensive, lengthy training course. So much for defending yourself from a tyrannical government, people who are opposed to handgun registration and control are lining up to register their controlled guns. The whole procedure is designed so that only the "right" people can arm themselves, those with no arrest records and fat wallets.
Those restrictions are tailored to keep the riff-raff from arming themselves, so (for the most part) only old white guys with buck$ can legally pack heat. Its sort of like the 18th century; everybody had the right to carry a sword, but they were so expensive only the nobility could afford one, or afford the training it took to use it effectively.
If they really took all this second amendment crap seriously, they would let everybody carry openly, and those who couldn't afford guns would be subsidized by the state so they could protect themselves too.
