My wife and I have lived on the Navajo Nation in Arizona for the past year. Here, we are very much in the minority, but we’ve been treated with nothing but kindness, even though whites have given the indigenous North American peoples plenty of reason to resent, and indeed to hate us.
The smirk on that kid’s face *is* racism. It’s white nationalism and white supremacy and given time it will become physical violence, if it hasn’t already. When my dad was a young man, he was employed by the Canadian government to deal with people like that. He flew a heavy bomber and killed them and their families in their homes while they slept. And even then, with much of the world trying to destroy them, we haven’t been able to crush these racist white cockroaches.
We need to try harder.
