We are in no shape whatsoever to secede - especially after this year's wildfires. In any other year, I'd say we might have a chance, if we include Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington in the deal. This year's blazes put an end to any possibility of that, however.
The only states (or group of states) that currently have the might and ability to secede are Texas, and New England. Texas would probably make it on their own, provided they don't screw up their finances like last time, and New England will probably spend a decade independent before it sells itself to Canada.
