I share your skepticism on recent UFO reports.
No one anywhere "get's along fine without" supply and demand. It exists regardless of what anyone does. Whatever polices are made simply adjust supply or demand or both, and thus also prices and quantities. I would urge you to understand this fundamental economic law more conceptually.
