The element you are missing
Unlike Russia and pre-Nazi Germany, America has a long democratic tradition. It is too ingrained into the national character to be tossed aside imo. Sure, there are plenty of Trumptards who could be persuaded by authoritarianism, but the majority would never allow it. There are way too many voices to silence. I'm not saying there aren't people who may never try it, look what Trump did ffs, but it wouldn't succeed. Even done incrementally there will be a backlash at some point that will reverse course. Even a real emergency like Covid wasn't enough for Trump to postpone the 2020 election, although he tried.
