There is only one way we can stop climate change.

A carbon tax, implemented world wide. Easily done, it will work, it will hurt us economically and cause some hard times, but it will work. But it will never happen because its too easy to cheat, and people who sell oil will lose money--and they have clout. Not just here, but in Russia, the Middle East and in every country who has oil.

No I don't think every idea to mitigate climate change is a scam, just yours.
The problems are technical, but solvable. The opposition is economic and political, and THOSE problems will never be solved.

Alternative energy sources will help, maybe 10%-20% replacing fossil fuels, but no more than that. Nukes can be a great help, but they have lots of problems. The critics of nukes have valid objections, but I still support building more of them, its a risk we have to take. That was the original plan in the 1960s, although the crisis they expected then was the oil running out, not climate change. Remember Eisenhower's "Atoms for Peace" program? I WAS THERE! I know what I'm talking about. A massive hydro program would help, but most dammable rivers are already dammed, and the greens think the environmental costs are too high. Still, we need electrons more than we need salmon.

Conservation, which is best encouraged by taxation, is the best possible strategy. Hopefully this will lead to rebuilding our entire society from top to bottom so it needs less energy. No, electric cars will not help all that much. We need to start riding electric buses and trains and phase out cars altogether. But even if all my suggestions are implemented, there will be enormous damage caused before the remedial measures take effect.

While we are at it, we need to stop eating meat and start replanting forests Carbon capture is a vulgar farce. I refuse to even discuss it. Like electric cars, its just a way of conning us into believing we can get something for nothing. And of course, there's always fusion... That's not impossible, just unlikely.

Mine are practical, workable solutions, but the business majors have too much to lose. After all, if you have money, you can afford to move where there is still food, fuel and water left. And you can hire mercenaries to keep out the low-lifes.

My guess is Russia, China and India will be the countries most likely to survive relatively intact. Russia and China will have brutal dictatorships to implement the necessary measures, and India still has an functioning low-tech village economy and people who know how to manage it. Parts of South America may survive, too, because they still have large, indigenous populations who know how to live in the Andes. The middle east will still have oil, but no customers to buy it, and no way to ship it.

But earth abides. What will probably happen is the economic disruption and social dislocation caused by AGW will be so severe that the global economy will collapse, manufacturing will take an order of magnitude drop, and that alone will start dialing the greenhouse gases down. If we're lucky, about half the present global population will survive, at a highly reduced standard of living. That is, if we can avoid nuclear war.
