If Trump feels his deal with Putin is actually working his next move will be to try the same maneuver with China--by selling out Taiwan, S Korea,, Japan, The Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Australia/New Zealand.

I am starting to come to the realization that Trump actually is convinced he cannot compete with Russia and China, even with America's traditional allies in East Asia and Europe, so he is ready to throw them all under the bus to buy the US a bit more time. After all, if it all goes south, he's probably going to be dead by then anyway.
