GRB 260924A: Enhanced Swift-XRT position

GCN Circular 45715
GRB 260924A: Enhanced Swift-XRT position
From: Phil Evans at U of Leicester
Issued: 2026-09-24 05:11 UTC

P.A. Evans, M.R. Goad, J.P. Osborne and A.P. Beardmore (U. Leicester)
report on behalf of the Swift-XRT team.

Using 1346 s of XRT Photon Counting mode data and 4 UVOT
images for GRB 260924A, we find an astrometrically corrected X-ray
position (using the XRT-UVOT alignment and matching UVOT field sources
to the USNO-B1 catalogue): RA, Dec = 133.76280, +12.04325 which is equivalent
to:

RA (J2000): 08h 55m 03.07s
Dec (J2000): +12d 02' 35.7"

with an uncertainty of 2.1 arcsec (radius, 90% confidence).

This position may be improved as more data are received. The latest
position can be viewed at UKSSDC | Swift-XRT GRB positions (swift.ac.uk). Position
enhancement is described by Goad et al. (2007, A&A, 476, 1401) and Evans
et al. (2009, MNRAS, 397, 1177).

This circular was automatically generated, and is an official product of the
Swift-XRT team.

Filter: gamma-ray bursts are posted only if in the top 10% of the past year's — by fluence (total energy received per cm², from Fermi GBM, Konus-Wind, GECAM and similar circulars; now ≥ 3.9×10^-5 erg/cm²) or by the number of GCN Circulars about the burst (now ≥ 14). Thresholds are recalculated monthly.
