It was raining in Boston for Senator Ted Kennedy's funeral Mass. I couldn't help but think of the tears of God over our loss of a man who fought for those in need. He was more than the Senior Senator from Massachusetts; he belonged to all of us. The more I have learned about him, the more my respect has grown.
I was sitting in the Ford dealership getting new brakes, new rear tires (which got put on the front) and a transmission fluid change watching the funeral mass. Every time someone would say something funny, the speakers at the dealership would boom, "Fat Boy and Carl, come to..."
I wanted to shoot that speaker (the speaker itself, not the human speaker). And then there was the little girl playing blocks. Ordinarily I like watching kids play but damn, those blocks were loud. Guess I should have asked them to turn up the volume.
3 1/2 hours later, after almost following asleep in my chair, I left, the funeral mass over, all the speeches given.
Of them all, the best was Ted Kennedy, Jr. He brought laughter and tears. He is an excellent speaker. I think he should carry on the Kennedy legacy in the Senate but that is up to the voters of Massachusetts, of course--well, and up to him.
Now, they're at Arlington so I'll go watch him laid to rest.
It's something that it took Senator Kennedy's death to get Michael Jackson off the front page. When I prayed to get Jackson out of the constant news barrage, I really didn't want someone else to die.
Tears of God
