At one level I was just indulging in a little sport by alluding to the debunking of the aerial photo "proving" that a million teabaggers marched in Washington. I was charmed by the way you blithely dismissed it as "mistakenly posted on a blog". I am sooooo curious: How does a 12 year old picture whose content just happens to support the assertion of the surrounding text just happen to get posted, apparently without human intervention, in a blog? Enquiring minds really want to know.

The other text was about the hysterical overreaction of rightists to...well, to everything. In this case you made it sound as if Pittsburg was being sacked by Visigoths. But it was just a couple of thousand fanatical Greens doing their usual noisy yet inconsequential thing, outnumbered 2:1 by the forces of the Establishment, and hopelessly outgunned had it come down to that. I couldn't find an aerial photo of the WTO protests in Seattle a few years ago, or I'd have posted that. Yeah, barbarians at the gate, Tom. Right.

That disconnect with reality is starting to become the topic, as more and more people comment on the perceived insanity of the right, instead of trying any more to respond to it. You probably read the oped in Friday's Murky titled CrazyWorld twists what's going on in actual America (the online title is different, for some reason). Teepen does a good job expressing what's been on my mind lately, and why I don't bother to post much on this board. Why spend all my time just correcting false assertions? I don't need to prove that the President is a citizen or that "death panels" are a ridiculously-transparent scare tactic or that Obama's health care plan is not copy-n-pasted from a Nazi genocide blueprint, nor that the President is neither a socialist nor a fascist.

The truth is, it's not the content of all those false claims that's your message. The message of the right is how very, very much you hate Barack Obama, and you're reaching for every possible way to insult the man to get your message across. Believe me, Tom, message received. And he's going to remain President for at least 3 years and some, and very likely for eight years. So give it a rest, please.
