Re: HUH!?

O is a good-looking, smooth-talking embodiment of American-style political correctness (multiracial background, multicultural childhood and family, etc) with a narcissistic sense of entitlement which made him sell his soul to Axelrod and Rahm to become the new POTUS. He is a man without genuine friends, like all true narcissists. His wife, who looks to me like the mother he never really had (to pursue her career, his biological mother left him in the care of her parents) and Valerie Jarrett (also a mother figure) are seemingly his only friends.

O will hang on to the end of this first term and run for a second, probably because he thinks he should, and in any case if only because he must do so in order to make fodder for a narrative of noble failure that he can use to ensure an income and a safe bubble of sympathy in which to cocoon himself for the rest of his life. The longer he fights a losing battle, the more the losers in the nutroots community will come to identify with him and thus offer him their support and their dollars when his time in politics comes to an end. Look for whatever policies he can enact to become more ideological as time goes on. He will either react to rejection and failure by overcompensation, or will cynically prepare for a political martyrdom to lock in the lifelong adulation of his base.

Once he is out of office one way or another, he will ascend to some high administrative post at an Ivy League school and affect the pose of the elder statesman, a la Carter. His temper and abilities suit him to be an academic administrator, and he will do well there - those years may be the first substantive successes of his life. Under no circumstances will he ever hold elective public office again; he would be too polarizing. He might be appointed as an ambassador or receive some special commission of some sort. He will rake in huge lecture circuit fees, have awards named after him and chairs endowed in his name (Temple University law school currently has a "Barack Hall"), and generally swim in the subculture of the chattering classes who are already predisposed to love him because he is one of their own.

I'm afraid that O thinks he is the boss of the world. I wonder how mean and resentful he'll be when he'll realize that the world doesn't want to be led by the USA anymore. IMO American power was at its apex when Eisenhower was president, and has been slowly declining ever since (Vietnam, the American peak oil of 1970s, etc).
