Our problems in perspective
We all worry about everything from global warming to health care but most things have a way of working out in the long run.
In 1900 there were over 100,000 horses in NY city. The horses produced over 2.5 million pounds of horse manure daily. Horse manure lined the streets and was piled in mountains on vacant lots. Those of you familiar with how snow piles up in the northern States in winter have and inkling of the problem.
Manure, stink, flies, They had no clue how to solve the problem. Conferences on the problem were canceled because no one had any ideas for a solution. Predictions were made that the streets would be inundated with 9 ft of manure in 10 years.
