Re: "Hijacked" terms?
"free", "limited", and "lower" are all questions of degree. there is nothing wrong with free markets, limited government, and lower taxes. in fact, they are worthwhile goals no one in his right mind could object to in principle.
Interesting, since almost any proposed move in those directions are virulently opposed by liberals and Democrats, including some here.
what infuriates moderates is that the extremists have hijacked these terms, chosen to define them in such a way that anyone who doesn't use their definitions must obviously favor just the opposite.
"Free, limited, and lower" have fairly precise meanings. If anyone has redefined these terms, it's the Left, which apparently defines a "free market" as one in which the government controls every aspect of how business is done, but allows the company owners to pretend they actually own the business.
As for "limited government," ask a liberal or leftist where the government could actually be cut, other than (of course) the military, and all you will hear is the slow grinding of teeth. The Federal budget is twice what it was when Ronald Reagan was in his second term, in constant dollars, and yet you will not find one Democratic leader in Washington who does not believe the Federal Government is anywhere close to big enough. In fact, they're busting their ass to absorb the entire health care system into it.
"Lower taxes" means taxes that are actually lower, not reduced tax rates on people who don't actually pay any, or on favored voting blocs.
I believe americans came to their senses just in time.
From what I'm seeing in polls, I think that's what they're doing right now. For one thing I believe they have noticed that Obama the Candidate has very little in common with Obama the President. Several months of being painted as troglodytes by the Democrats and their media buttmonkeys has made an impression, too.
