Apparently, Keith Cowing, who used to post on Habitablezone.com
and BBS, has come up with the idea that it is possible
to plan, assemble, test and fly off-the-shelf hardware in only 1,000 days
to send men back to the Moon.
He calls it Project M.
Is he serious?
OK, let's assume he's thinking of converting one of those Armadillo or Masten aerospace 'landers' to serve as a one person lander on the Moon.
Maybe he's thinking of a stretched Soyuz (stretched fuel tanks) to serve
as the lunar orbiting mothership.
And maybe he's thinking of upgrading or manrating an available Atlas V
or the most powerful member of the Delta boosters.
I still think it can't be done in 1,000 days, no matter how much money
NASA or a private billionaire throws at it.
What do you think?
Maybe one of you, perhaps Robert or Frank, could invite Keith back to this website to get confirmation
of what he proposes.
Is Keith Cowing serious? 1000 days to the Moon?
