Re: Imagine...

You might want to read that over again, and think about what kind of control all those myriad restrictions would require.

"...personal freedoms under some blend of capitalism and socialism." Yeah, right. How do you propose to select the gods who will command the resources of a planet? Who will "distribute" that wealth, "manage" and "optimize" our existence, and make sure the tall poppies are chopped off? Except, as always, the poppies in the palaces of the rulers.

Again, read over that post carefully, and think hard about how things would actually be done, and what would happen to anybody who moved outside those little boxes.

"Where do you see us in 1,000 years?" That's actually an unanswerable question. I know for damn sure we wouldn't be supporting 6 billion people today - and not all that badly, considering - using the technology of 1,000 AD. I also know that almost everything we do nowadays would be almost inconceivable to a person from 1,000 years ago. I think we have a possibility of a future with abundance, high standards of living, and freedom to act and build to the limits of our imaginations.

My major hope, and one that started me in the space field, is that we get the technology for large scale space travel, resource exploitation, and colonization. We badly need the resources, and we badly need someplace to spread out when freedom here is completely squelched.
