It is interesting to me because from the viewpoint of science fiction, it should be possible to detect whether an object is an asteroid or a spaceship.
By taking the optical signature and comparing it to the infrared signature, it must be possible to infer whether there is more infrared energy being generated than can be accounted for by sunlight alone.
