Ed Roberts joins his ALTAIR 8800 minicomputer, departing forever.

Back in January,1975, the magazine Popular Electronics
featured a story on the world's first minicomputer
called ALTAIR 8800. That minicomputer, made by an engineer
named Ed Roberts, then 33 years old, was available only to hobbyists
at that time.
That minicomputer, the name personal computer did not yet exist,
did not have a video screen, it did not have a keyboard, and you had
to personally assemble it and use a switchlike device to program
it.
Two Harvard students, Bill Gates and Paul Allen, helped develop
the software for that hobbyist computer.
To the surprise of Ed Roberts that minicomputer was sold by the 1,000's
in the first month that year. The personal computer and, later, the
internet revolution were born.

Ed Roberts died at that start of this month.
