Pad abort test today
I watched the Pad Abort Test of the Orion Launch abort system this morning. It seemed to work as designed. It would have been a lot more spectacular had NASA TV been prepared for it. The video they provided was very bad. Right at liftoff when the motors ignited the camera went blank for a second, then as it tilted up it hit the stops and all you saw was smoke and sky. It took a couple of seconds more before they switched to a camera that could see it climbing out but the lighting was so bad it was very difficult to see what was going on. I would hope they release views from other angles that are better later. Once again NASA TV looks amateurish. I think I could have done better with my camcorder.
