Never hold a rightwinger responsible for anything

Sure, Rand Paul didn't say anything, the "standard shitstorm" put the words into his mouth. As always.

Not that I can't concede that it struck me that acknowledged partisans like Olbermann and Maddow were trying real hard to make an issue of what are, when you get right down to it, stock positions from what TPM accurately calls "the extreme libertarian fringe of the Republican party". There's a longstanding philosophical debate over the propriety of antidiscrimination laws reaching into the private sphere, focusing on the (implied) right to free association. But Paul showed his total novice stature by confusing a cable news interview with a philosophical debate. Competency at politics is part of the job he's trying for, and Paul demonstrated his lack of it.

The guy comes across as somebody who's really burdened by his names. He's acting like the tormented lovechild of Ron Paul and Ayn Rand, and driven to extremes by his heritage. How do you outshine your father and godmother when they're two of the most extreme political thinkers America has ever known?
