You don't have to enter the Twilight Zone to figure these things out, and you don't need a "conspiracy" to have a particular cultural "zeitgeist."
Places like the education system, academia, and popular entertainment select for leftism in the same way that country clubs used to select for WASPs. It didn't require a conspiracy, or secret meetings, or some WASP Overlord wearing the Sacred Golf Pants in a secret bunker to get all the clubs act this way. It's a cultural and social environment.
Basically, if you have the wrong politics in any of those environments, you just aren't going to do as well as those who have the "correct" politics.
After the selection process has been in place for a while, it gets hard to reverse.
