I bet I know what happened. You'd be surprised how easy it is to forget something like a tuna sandwich in a suitcase pocket. My wife forgot an apple once that was pretty ooky by the time we found it.
On the other hand, while that might make for a stink, how the heck would flies get at it to make maggots? Wouldn't you almost have to pick up some road kill and THEN pack it in your suitcase?
