Vitamins for Digestive Health (originally from Comestible Zone)

Helpful List. However, I take issue with the Daily Multivitamin being sufficient if you eat enough fruits, etc. with Vitamin C in it. One, IF you smoke, you need a lot of extra Vitamin C because smoking depletes the C. In fact, you couldn't eat enough fruits to give you sufficient C if you smoke. Read here to see what smoking does to your Vitamin C and Vitamin A.

I quit smoking about 15 years ago but I still take 2000 milligrams of Vit. C per day plus a multivitamin. If it doesn't give you loose bowels, your body is using the C. If you get loose bowels from C supplementation, back off just a little until you no longer have loose stools. That is your optimal C amount. Then, if you get a cold or flu, you can up the C temporarily. Again, your gut will tell you when you've reached too much and just back off a bit from there.

You have to be careful with A as it can be toxic if you get too much. So be careful with it if you supplement. We don't want jaundiced livers.
